Japan Tax-Free Shopping Guide
Tax-free shopping is available for non-residents (foreign tourists and Japanese nationals living overseas temporarily returning home). Consumption tax is exempted when purchasing eligible items under specific conditions at our store.
Important:
You must present your original passport at the time of purchase.
You must present the purchased items and your passport to Customs upon departure from Japan.
1. Who is Eligible? (Tax-Free Eligibility)
Only "Non-Residents" are eligible.
Foreign Nationals: Must hold a "Short-Term Stay" status of residence and have been in Japan for less than 6 months.
Japanese Nationals (Living Overseas): Must have resided outside Japan for 2 years or more, are temporarily returning to Japan, and have been in Japan for less than 6 months.
2. Required Documents
Please present the following at the checkout:
Passport: Must have an Entry Stamp (Seal of Verification for Landing).
Note: If you used an Automated Gate, please ask an immigration officer for a stamp.
For Japanese Nationals Living Overseas: In addition to the passport, you must present a "Certificate of Residence" or a "Copy of the Family Register (Koseki no Fuhyo)" proving 2+ years of overseas residence. These documents must be issued within 6 months prior to your return date.
3. Purchase Limits & Conditions (For Whisky)
Whisky is categorized as a "Consumable Item."
Purchase Amount: Total purchase must be between 5,000 JPY and 500,000 JPY (excluding tax) per day at our store.
Packaging: Tax-free consumables will be packed in a special sealed bag.
DO NOT OPEN this bag while in Japan. If opened or consumed in Japan, you will be required to pay the consumption tax at Customs upon departure.
4. Tax-Free Procedure
At the Shop: Present your passport and necessary documents when paying.
At the Airport/Port: Present your passport and the purchased items to Customs officials before departure.
5. Important Notes
No Resale: Items must be for personal use only. Purchasing for business or resale purposes is strictly prohibited.
Visit Japan Web: Foreign nationals can use the "Visit Japan Web" service to display their passport information for tax-free shopping.
